Depending on your PC case like the NZXT H9 Flow, it will work, it just might not be as practical due to how the PSU sits in the case. Overall still helps and works great in this type of case though.

The Corsair RM850x Shift is a highly regarded and highly rated power supply that's pretty much perfect for anyone playing games, unless you are trying to stack multiple powered RTX 5080 cards or running a heavy-duty card like an RTX 5090 that requires way more headroom. In those extreme cases, you would need to consider a higher wattage. Otherwise, you won't notice a single issue when daily using your PC.
During daily gaming, you probably won't even think about your power supply unless your PC turns off randomly or gets too loud. Luckily, to reconfirm, this is an excellent PSU, so you are highly unlikely to experience any issues right out of the box.
Something else to consider is that the unique side-port design makes taking care of your PC far easier down the road. Very rarely do we say this, but this PSU is so great that we don't see anyone not wanting it or one just like it. Most likely, this unit works perfectly for 99% of casual and straightforward PC builds.
Case Fit Constraints: If you have a uniquely or fancy-designed case where the PSU shroud or mounting location isn't practical for side-facing ports, it will probably still work, but you might be better off finding a standard layout more suited for that specific chassis.
Need More Power: You might need to consider a more powerful unit if you are running a massive flagship GPU like the RTX 5090. Fortunately, if you still love the side port concept, Corsair offers higher wattage Shift models to cover those extreme builds.

Our verdict is that we absolutely love this power supply. It's one of the few components on the market that breaks the mold of being a bit different for a genuinely good reason.
